After nearly two years of development, the MTA Team has shipped Multi Theft Auto San Andreas 1.6.0, a major multiplayer overhaul mod for the classic GTA 3D era titles. The release focuses heavily on long-overdue compatibility-breaking fixes and graphical improvements that had been held back across several prior versions, with new features planned for the next cycle.
Note that 1.6 is not network-compatible with older versions including 1.5.9, so both clients and servers must upgrade. Twelve backwards-incompatible changes and five deprecations are documented in the release notes on the MTA Wiki.
